Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (GCMMF) is targeting a turnover of Rs 50,000 crore for the next four years on account of the increasing demand for milk and other valued added products; a top company official released a statement.
The turnover of GCMMF, during 2015-16 fiscal has increased upto 11 per cent which equals to Rs 23,005 crore. The dairy cooperative’s turnover has jumped almost three-fold in last six years to Rs 23,000 crore.
“After taking into consideration the continuous rise in demand for Amul products, we are anticipating at least 20 per cent growth in our turnover for next 4 years,” Managing Director, GCMMF, R S Sodhi was quoted by PTI as saying.
“So now, we have set a target of Rs 50,000 crore turnover by 2020 on the back of expected growth in sale of both value added products and milk,” Sodhi was quoted by PTI as saying.
Milk procurement of GCMMF for the year 2015-16 is around 186 lakh litres per day as against 148.50 lakh litres per day in the last fiscal. Almost half of Amul’s turnover comes from milk sale and its commodity business contributes around 5-7 per cent. Rest of the revenue is generated from the value added products segment.
“Value-added products sale has been showing tremendous growth. The sale of beverage product like Amul kool, fermented products like curd and butter milk has risen sharply. So all these are pushing our growth rate,” Sodhi was quoted by PTI as saying.
He further added, “The cooperative has raised its cheese producing capacity three times to 120 tonnes per day from 40 tonnes per day in last six months, as it was unable to meet the rising demand.”
Sodhi also informed that Amul is looking forward to raise its milk processing capacity from the present level of 281 lakh litres per day. The milk cooperative houses around 60 processing plants, of which 40 are situated in Gujarat.
GCMMF has 17 member unions, which are associated with around 36 lakh farmers across 18,600 villages of Gujarat. The member unions, also have their own processing plants in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal and Rajasthan and are procuring milk procurement from other states also.
