An official release by Benetton Group confirms Mohanty’s exit and says that Michel Lhoste, International Business Director, Benetton Group will assume the role of interim CEO at Benetton India.
Lhoste entered Benetton Group in 2013 and has been International Business Director since September 2014. He brings along over a decade of experience in the fashion industry. He comes to Benetton from a year in private equity. Before that, he served as Group General Manager of Sixty Group. Prior to Sixty, Lhoste served as General Manager in Belstaff Group.
Besides that, he has also held upper management positions in Slowear (Incotex Group, Sales Worldwide General Manager), Salvatore Ferragamo (General Manager EMEA) and Mantero Seta (sales Worldwide General Manager).
Before assuming responsibilities as the India MD, Mohanty had an impactful one-year term as Director – Sales & Marketing (India, ASEAN & Australia), Benetton India Pvt Ltd.
Under Mohanty’s strategic vision and direction, United Colors of Benetton India was also listed as one of the Top 50 firms to work for in the Retail sector consecutively for three years — 2012, 2013 and 2014. Benetton was awarded the trophy for ‘Most Admired Retailer of the year: Fashion & Lifestyle’ at IMAGES Retail Awards (IRA) in 2010, ‘Most Admired Exclusive Brand Retail Chain’ at IMAGES Fashion Awards (IFA) 2006, ‘Most Admired Casualwear Brand’ at IFA 2007, ‘Most Admired Fashion Design Concept of the Year’ at IFA 2014 and 2015, ‘Most Admired Men’s Westernwear Brand of the Year’ at IFA 2014, and ‘Most Admired Kidswear Brand of the Year’ at IFA 2012, 2014 and 2015.
A Post Graduate in Apparel Marketing and Merchandising from National Institute of Fashion Technology, India, Mohanty began his career in 1997 as a Merchandising Manager at Jay Gee Apparel. Since then he has gathered over 18 years of experience as a fashion retail strategist, something that Jabong will be hoping to benefit from, as it attempts to recover lost ground and generate sales numbers closer to the fashion category revenues at online majors Flipkart, Myntra and now, Amazon.
