Mumbai-based broadcasting, advertising and sports rights management company Nimbus Communications is reportedly planning to enter the fast growing and DVD rental business. It is believed that Nimbus is trying to replicate a Hollywood video rental retail chain with a membership programme.
The company is in talks with unorganized DVD rental libraries to work out an arrangement – primarily to beat the high real estate entry costs, while acquiring existing locations. Nimbus is also looking at setting up video entertainment lounges that will integrate video rental with the video on demand.
The DVD rental market is expected to touch Rs.2,100 crore in the next four years, although with the advent of DTH and IPTV, the DVD business is expected to grow at a slower pace that expected earlier.
