Chinese Government — KFC as harmful as a DODO

Must Read

China’s Ministry of Health has cleared U.S. fast-food chain KFC, from charges that it uses chemicals in its cooking process which are harmful to health.

KFC, which is owned by Yum! Brands Inc., has faced similar charges in China before. As a result of which it had to pull out some products from its menu in March 2005, after Sudan 1, a dye that is believed to be cancer causing, was found in these products. In November 2006, KFC denied using cooking oil with trans fatty acids, which increases heart disease risks.

The Ministry in a statement on its website has said that Magnesium silicate, used by KFC to purify cooking oil in China, is permitted for usage in the food industry and has no adverse impact on health.
