Spar questing for partners in India

Dutch retailer Spar International is looking to tie up with retailers having individual store that can run under the Spar brand name.

Gordon R Campbell, managing director, Spar International, in a statement said, “Finding right partner and sight is a big issue in the Indian market. However, delays in getting real estate are common in most of the countries we operate.”

Campbell informed that Spar will also move to tier II and III cities after it experiences success in metros.

Commenting on the rising protests by trade groups against big retail chains, Gary Alberts, head, retail, Spar International said, “We have not seen this happening anywhere in the world. However, we want to work along with small stores and local community.”

Spar has already signed a licensing agreement with Dubai-based Landmark Group’s Max Hypermarket to set up seven hypermarkets and supermarkets in the country. It opened its first hypermarket in Bengaluru.
