The burglary and theft threats on the organised retail sector in India continue to mount. Sunday, January 13, burglars smacked Vishal Mega Mart, Mathura Road and looted goods worth over five lakh rupees.
“Some burglars broke the security and looted the Techno Mart section where we have mobiles and laptops,” a company official told Indiaretailing. The count of loss is estimated to be between four to five lakhs rupees.
However, the company is neither blaming the security arrangements for the theft, nor it has any plans to change the security agency. It is also happy with its staff and is not accusing them.
In a similar manner, Vishal outlet in Pune was also burgled. Referring to that, the company rejected any chances of similarity saying the problem is a common in the organised retail sector in India.
According to the Global Retail Theft Barometer 2007 report, the organised retail sector in India witnessed a loss of around US$2,379 million, accounting for 2.90 per cent of total sales in 2007.
