Ambuja Realty, the joint enterprise of West Bengal Housing Board (WBHB) and Gujarat Ambuja Cements Ltd. (GACL), is building malls for the tier II cities in eastern and western parts of the country.

“We are developing malls under the brand name of City Centre in the east, while for the western region, malls called Bioscope Malls are planned. We want to have a pan India presence by developing malls and retail outlets in almost all small cities in the country,” Vivek Rathore, senior architect, Ambuja Realty informed Indiaretailing.

The eastern cities including Siliguri, Raipur, Silchar, Haldia will soon see malls under the brand name City Centre as the company plans to finish the projects within the next two years, while Bioscope Malls will be developed in western cities including Rajasthan, Ajmer and Chandigarh.

According to Rathore, the company perceives that the tier II customers have tremendous spending potential but don’t have too many resources to choose from. “This is our endeavour to provide them with shopping centres where they can shop from the heart,” he added.

Discussing the models, Rathore said, “The malls in the eastern region will have a multiplexe, a Big Bazaar store, while the company is in talks with apparel brands including Peter England, Van Huesen, and Duke.”
