Fabindia focusing on community-owned companies

Indian apparel and home furnishing brand Fabindia, which sources its products from various districts in India, has started running 18 community-owned companies and will operate 23 more within a couple of years.

“Out of the 611 administrative districts in India, 350 have the potential to be our suppliers. Already, we have a presence in about 150 of them,” William Bissel, managing director of Fabindia, told the media on the sidelines of the 9th Marketing & Retail Conclave organised by Technopak.

Fabindia sources its products from over 15,000 craftsmen and artisans across India.

The company is planning to roll out 250 stores within the next two years with an approximate investment of two billion rupees.

“Currently, we have 78 stores and are planning to increase it to 250 by 2010,” said Bissell.
