S Kumars plans mass brand

Must Read

Brandhouse Retails Ltd, part of S Kumars Nationwide Limited (SKNL) has planned to launch its own private label and position it as a mass brand.

Announcing this to the media, Tarun Joshi, managing director of the company, said: “Our value-for-money private label will be sold through the stores that are leased property. So, we will not set up retail stores for private labels. Our private label will be on the likes of Westside stores targeted at apparels and accessories for men, women, and kids.”

Citing reasons for this move, Joshi explained, “Infrastructural bottlenecks, high rent costs, and mismanagement by mall developers has dented the luxury retailing market in India as there are hardly any footfalls and consumer spends. In such a scenario, launching a private label targeted at a mass brand makes sense, as most retail majors are foreseeing a bright future for a private label, which does not pinch the people’s pockets.”

The company is also in talks with mall developers to set up their exclusive branded outlets as anchor tenants. Joshi said, “We are talking to premium mall developers including InOrbit Mall, in order to set up exclusive premium branded stores of Reid & Taylor, Stephens Brothers, Belmonte, and Car Michael House.”
