There could not have been a better beginning for November at Dalal Street than today. The market brought cheers to investors as the 50-share index Sensex added 549 points to its previous close of 9,788 to settle above the crucial level of 10,000. The 50-share Nifty too ended the day above the psychological benchmark of 3,000.
RBI’s rate cut announcements last weekend put the market in a good mood today, as rate sensitive stocks drove key indices higher. Sensex ended the day above 10,000 at 10,337. Nifty shut shop above at 3043, up 158 points. BSE Midcap and BSE Smallcap indexes gained 4.9 per cent and 4.3 per cent respectively. Capital goods, banking, realty, power and oil & gas stocks rallied significantly.
Top gainers at Sensex include Reliance Infrasructure, JP Associates, DLF, Ranbaxy, while top losers were Satyam Computer and Infosys.

The day remained wonderful for the retail stocks as well. Most of the retail stocks traded in green led by Pantaloon Retail, Adlabs Films, Aditya Birla Nuvo and Shoppers Stop. Shares that went red include Koutons Retail and Vishal Retail. A quick look at how the retail stocks fared:
