Must Read

Hypermarket chain Wal-Mart Stores chart to sell models of Apple Inc’s 3G iPhone. The phones will be available in nearly 2,500 stores from December 28.

“Our electronics associates have been preparing for many weeks for the arrival of 3G iPhone. We are delighted to bring customers this ground-breaking mobile technology,” said Gary Severson, senior vice president, entertainment, Wal-Mart Stores.

Until now, the iPhone has only been available through Apple’s own stores, AT&T outlets and electronics retail chain Best Buy.

“We would offer the black 8-gigabyte iPhone 3G model, which holds about 2,000 songs, for USD 197. The 16-gigabyte model, in black or white, will be priced at USD 297. All of the phones require a new two-year service agreement from AT&T Inc or a qualified upgrade, added Severson.

According to market research firm Gartner, Apple now has 12.9 per cent of the smartphone market, trailing research in Motion’s Blackberry (15.9 per cent) and Nokia (42.4 per cent).
