IIT Bombay to offer retail courses

In an effort that could lead to shape the retail career of aspiring students, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay is all set to offer certificate programmes in supply chain management. The programme which is scheduled to start from February 1, 2009 will be held in New Delhi. A total of 125 students will be selected for the programme, according to an IIT official.

“For the first time an IIT is conducting an off campus programme in India. Apart from Delhi and NCR, the course would simultaneously start in Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai and Ahmedabad,” said Aastha Jindal, admission coordinator, IIT Bombay.

Offered on first come first basis, the eligibility for the programme is minimum 50 per cent marks in graduation or diploma in any discipline. “The duration of the programme will be of six months and classes will be held once a week through video conferencing with regular evaluation. IIT-Bombay will provide the certificates to the student. The total fee for the programme is Rs 62,500 including application charges,” added Jindal.

Earlier, Bharti Wal-Mart, the joint venture between Bharti Enterprises and Wal-Mart Stores Inc for wholesale cash-and-carry and back-end supply chain management operations in India, through an MoU with the Government of Punjab, also established a special skills training centre in Amritsar.
