Indian stock market experienced insipid opening this morning despite the Asian markets, especially China and Hong Kong, doing well. The 30-share index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 12 points, at 9214. Nifty kicked off the day at 2809, up 6 points.
On Wednesday, Sensex ended in positive amid volatility on account of buying seen in select frontiners. Heavy buying was seen in metal stocks followed by realty, while consumer durables dropped.
Sensex ended the day with a gain of 52.55 points at 9,201.85 after touching a high of 9,338.21 and a low of 9,164.16. The broad-based NSE Nifty gained 19.15 points, or 0.69 per cent at 2,803.05 after hitting a high of 2,842.20 and a low of 2,780.70.
BSE Midcap and Smallcap index declined 0.45 per cent and 0.03 per cent respectively. Among the sectoral indices, BSE Metal gained 2.99 per cent, Realty rose 1.18 per cent, while Consumer durables dropped 2.72 per cent.
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were DLF, Tata Steel, Jaiprakash Associates, while Mahindra & Mahindra, Ranbaxy Laboratories, Hindalco Industries, Reliance Capital and ICICI Bank were the major losers.
