Fame India, which owns 20 operational properties and 73 screens of Fame Cinemas chain of multiplexes, is expanding its footprint up north.
“We are mapping cities like Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Mohali and Amritsar in Punjab for the expansion of our multiplex chain. By the end of this financial year, we hope to cross 100 screens. As many as 25 are ready for launch at places like Kalyan, Kolkata, Vashi, Malhad, Bangalore and Pune,” said Shravan Shroff, managing director, Fame Cinemas.
The company has earmarked an investment of Rs 50-75 crore for expansion in the fiscal year 2009-10. Shroff added, “The economic meltdown has not affected the entertainment industry much. This is an opportunity to negotiate with the developers for newer properties as the rentals have fallen by 25-40 per cent in the last few months.”
Quite recently, Fame India commenced its operations at Fame – Panchkula; Chandigarh which consists of 3 screens and 652 seats, out of which 42 seats are the fully automated gold class seats which have been introduced in Panchkula / Chandigarh area for the first time.
