Diamond major Gitanjali Group announced its association with IPL team Mumbai Indians and unveiled the diamond studded ‘Man of the match’ trophy to be presented during the home matches of Mumbai Indians. The two feet tall golden trophy has approximately 550 diamonds studded on it with 785 precious stones as a symbol of the most precious player.
Gilles Moutounet, VP – international business, explains, “IPL in India is more than a sporting activity. Also cricket is no longer restricted to men as iconic women like Mandira Bedi, Preity Zinta and Shilpa Shetty have come to the forefront with the game. So with the aim of reaching out to the global audience, Gitanjali is looking at getting associated with such sporting activities as well.”
In the diamond and jewellery segment, currently the company has a significant presence across the entire jewellery value chain. Having established itself as a prominent player in the gems and jewellery industry, the company has turned its focus to the lifestyle and luxury segments as well.
Elaborating some of the exclusive plans the brand has for the near future, Priyanka Choksi, manager – marketing & communications, Gitanjali Group says, “We will get associated with Formula One racing in China and the IFA awards then after. So we are not only looking at fashion or sports or entertainment in particular. As a true lifestyle brand, Gitanjali wants to grow with newer opportunities.”
Boman Irani, Kunal Khemmu and Cyrus Broacha from the cast of the upcoming movie 99 were also present during the occasion. The film is supposed to have cricket as one of its subjects and would capture the agony of a cricketer for missing a century by a single run.
