Britannia to launch more product in health food segment

In a bid to cut cost in maintaining profit margins, food manufacturer Britannia Industries, has recently announced that it is open to the idea of launching more products in the ‘healthy food’ segment.

Vinita Bali, MD & CEO, Britannia Industries, said, “There has been pressure but in the last two quarters we have held on to our operating margins. We have adopted various means like better use of energy and machinery, process improvement and efficiency in the use of materials.”

Vinita pointed out at the possibility of increasing prices of its product to cope with rise in sugar prices, a key ingredient in making bakery products. She told PTI, “We manage revenues and pricing as dynamic propositions. We continue to cut cost and increase prices.”

The company, in its Annual General Meeting earlier this year, had revealed that it has saved Rs 180 crore over last four years due to cost cutting measures. Vinita also said the company is open to the idea of introducing more healthy food products in various segment.

“We are constantly looking at new segments. Our focus in not only on healthy bakery products but also on our dairy business. We have recently launched zero fat milk and special cheese with 30 per cent less calorie,” Vinita said.

The company has announced the setting up of a foundation to promote the cause of nutrition in the country.
