Must Read

Bharti Wal-Mart Private Limited, has unveiled a Sustainable Agricultural Program in Haider Nagar village in Punjab. The implementation of this community development program highlights Bharti Wal-Mart’s commitment to provide quality fresh produce to retail stores through better agronomic practices and efficient supply chain management.

The Sustainable Agricultural Program also provides closed loop sanitation and energy-efficient modern solutions through community toilets and bio-gas plants to the community in Haider Nagar village with a view to help mitigate practices that impact the yield and quality of the farm produce being supplied to organised retail stores. This initiative forms part of Bharti Wal-Mart’s objective to set up an efficient and robust supply chain that maximises value for farmers and retailers.

Unveiling the initiatives, Raj Jain, managing director and CEO, Bharti Wal-Mart said, “At Bharti Wal-Mart, we firmly believe that the second green revolution will happen outside the farm through reduction of wastages in the supply chain. Our initiatives seek to address the needs of farm development in India and improve supply chain efficiencies that will bring quality produce at affordable prices to customers thus helping them save money and live better. This program showcases the convergence of farm development, sustainable practices and corporate philanthropy and is a reflection of our commitment to India’s inclusive growth imperatives.”

Bharti Wal-Mart has been engaged in such initiatives, which have resulted in enhancement of quality of farm produce, increase yield and higher price-realisation for over 110 small and marginal farmers in the Haider Nagar area. To facilitate these initiatives, six Self Help Groups (SHG’s) have been set up, which serve as an effective platform between the local community and Bharti Wal-Mart. The real impact of these initiatives has been felt by consumers of Bharti Retail’s Easyday and Bharti Wal-Mart’s Best Price Modern Wholesale store.
