Amigo Sports has announced the launch of FIFA collections in India through an exclusive licensing agreement with Global Brands Group, the master licensee of the FIFA brand globally. Under the agreement, Amigo Sports has exclusive rights to manufacturing, multi-channel distribution and retail of official FIFA merchandise across India.
Amigo Sports Pvt Ltd will set up FIFA Official Stores across India. The first two stores will come up at Palladium Mall and Oberoi Mall, Mumbai, followed by other stores across the country. Amigo Sports currently has a strong footprint of 49 stores across the country and plans to take the figure to 100 before 2010-end.
Sanjiv Mehta, chairman, Amigo Sports, said, “The plan is to set up FIFA stores in metros and tier II cities with an average store space of 700-1,500 sq.ft. We have invested Rs.400 million in this venture and expect to garner a revenue of Rs.100 crore in two years.”
The company has also tied up with department stores like Shoppers Stop, Central and Westside to sell and promote official FIFA branded merchandise. “We will spend close to 6-8 per cent of our revenue on advertising,” Mehta added.
The stores will stock official FIFA collections like apparel, sports accessories, footwear, eye-wear and event merchandise for men, women and children.
Simon Hawkins, SVP & GM, FIFA & Football Business Unit, Global Brands Group, said, “Although one would think India is a cricket-crazy nation, TV audience estimates suggest that over 287 million people will be watching the 2010 FIFA World Cup in India. The country has the potential to be one of the largest football-consuming nations in the world.”
