Get Shorty

Must Read

Has the recession affected the seasonal trends in fashion too? Autumn/winter styles are normally long and warm from most designers in India but hemlines at the fag end of 2009 seem to be soaring skywards. That’s right if it’s shorter then it is better. So minis, micros, hot pants are creating a riot on the catwalk. Check out the latest collections of designers Namrata Joshipura, Gauri and Nainika, Raakesh Agarvwal, Varun Sardana, Rehane, Wendell Rodricks and many others at various fashion weeks for the coming season. They have body hugging dresses, tiny skirts and some frothy gathered Barbie frocks which are all being lapped up by the young trendy fashionistas.

Minis were the rage in the 60s but this silhouette has not moved off the fashion charts for decades. In fact for forty years and more, the mini has remained the sexiest length that women have loved and men have wanted to see. Seasons are immaterial and so are physical attributes as women display their legs boldly through rain or shine hot or cold.

One of the best shapes for a mini is of course the shift or sack but even the bubble, tulip or the smock along with the baby doll and empire line dress looks good. Hot pants are the more daring version of a pair of shorts and look great as casual as well as formal wear. The interesting aspect of a mini is that it makes the wearer look a little younger than her age but when mature women with not the right statistics wear a mini, then the effect could be the opposite of stunning. So it is good to remember that the mini is a silhouette for the young or the young-at-heart but definitely for those with perfectly toned bodies.
