Indian designs for British Royalty!

Must Read

Designer Samant Chauhan showcased his work at an exclusive event organised for Their Royal Highnesses, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall and The Earl of Wessex at their recent visit to Jodhpur. It was also attended by the Maharajah and Maharani of Jodhpur and invited guests.

Their Royal Highnesses interacted with the selected designers who are part of the British Council’s Young Creative Entrepreneur Award Programme. This showcase of their creativity helped provide an insight into the fashion industry in India, one of the world’s fastest developing and most dynamic economies.

Chauhan’s collection The Silk Route traced Bhagalpur Silk to its roots, infusing in it an international dimension. A colour palette of shades of beige came together in this rich collection. The collection was an ode to ethical fashion that looks beyond commercial parables to a story of nurturing weaves and their origin.

Prince Charles spent much of his time in understanding the Bhagalpur silk craft. He was curious to understand how the award won by hauhan had helped him in creating value for his brand in the UK. “During the conversation I explained to him how the subsequent winners of that event and U.K. based designers with whom I am working have helped me grow my brand value in the UK.” said Chauhan.

The British Council’s Young Creative Entrepreneur Award programme, aims to develop a powerful professional network between creative entrepreneurs in India, the UK and internationally. It is an organized and tangible platform to acknowledge India’s creative entrepreneurial talent. A network that inspires and facilitates the sharing of best practices, builds skills, provides access to resources and market, offers professional development opportunities, mentoring, and increases opportunities for business. Till date 763 entrepreneurs have been through the award programme and there are numerous successes that highlight the collaborative links that the programme has been able to achieve.
