Four giant AV screens and her name up in lights – a stylish beginning from Monisha Jaising for her fabulous show titled “From Goddesses to Vampires” at HDIL Couture Week 2010. Inspired by the Greek Goddess Nyx, her collection was an Ode to Goddesses who turn to vampires, reflected in Monisha’s ultra-feminine womenswear line.
Opening her show with shades of white, dove grey and rose for the goddess look, Monisha’s creations floated down the ramp in jersey with glittering embroidery on shoulders, waist, hemline and necklines. One-shoulder minis with flowing long skirts around them, nude lace long sleeved minis, ruffled rose appliqué slinky maxis and feathered skirts with embroidered bodice shifts, created magic on the ramp. The gold embroidery was very emphatic throughout – bold at times or very delicate with detailed cut work. The stylishly draped shoulders with placement embellishments shimmered, while lace-edged glittering blouses, dresses and hot pants were sexy additions to the collection.
The line up of structured jackets with patch pockets, sequinned necklines, wing-shoulder detailing for the Vampire look along with trendy dresses in colours that ranged from black and deep purple to blood red. The sleek ivory jackets with heavy zardozi work at the waist and neck were beautifully finished and were teamed with micro shorts or skirts and revealed Monisha`s control over her creations. The final line up of gowns which ranged from halter to draped elegance with luxurious flowing skirts were in the black, red or white colour story.
The final ramp walk for the 21st century bride was in a white jersey gown with black detailing, flanked by her bridesmaids wearing hot pants with sheer white organza covers with tonal embroidery.
