Britain’s leading retailer, Mothercare Plc, said it will open 70 stores in India by March 2011, growing to at least 200 by March 2015.
Mothercare, which operates in India through a joint venture with New Delhi-based real estate firm DLF Ltd as well as through a franchisee arrangement Shopper’s Stop Ltd, said it now expected total overseas network sales to double to around £1bn by 2014. The group issued new guidance to coincide with an investor and analyst event in New Delhi.
The company plans to increase its overseas retail space by 15-20 per cent per annum and plans to add 175 new overseas stores in the current financial year.
