Gitanjali Lifestyle, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Gitanjali Gems, has brought its department store ‘Maya’ to Mumbai. Located at Star Mall in Dadar, the 8,000-sq.ft outlet – its first in Mumbai – is being positioned as a woman-centric store showcasing over 150 Indian and international brands across apparel, jewellery, watches, accessories and footwear, among other categories.
Speaking on the occasion, Deepak Tulsian, vice-president, retail, Gitanjali Group, said, “With the opening of the first store in Mumbai, Maya hopes to offer women of this city a unique and memorable shopping experience. It is our way of showing appreciation for the modern Indian woman and the efforts she makes to balance her work and family life. We aim to spread this concept to many more locations in Mumbai and across the country in the next few months.”
Gitanjali Lifestyle plans to open 100 Maya stores in the next 3-5 years and become one of the top five department store chains in India. Future expansion would come through both company-owned and franchisee stores.
The first Maya store was opened in Delhi in 2009. The department store chain currently has its presence in Indore, Allahabad, Gwalior, Delhi, Guwahati, Nanded and Mumbai.
