Café Coffee Day (CCD), a part of India’s largest integrated coffee conglomerate Amalgamated Bean Coffee Trading Company Ltd, has major expansion plans for the next few years. The company is looking at opening 1,000 new outlets by 2014 to take its store count to over 2,000.

Speaking exclusively to IndiaRetailing, K Ramakrishnan, president, marketing, Café Coffee Day, said, “We will be expanding in our existing cities. Of course, [we are] looking at new cities and townships in the country.”

Stressing that transport hubs such as airports have great potential, he said, “People are looking for a familiar place such as ours while on transit and are seen flocking to our outlets at airports.” CCD currently has around 19 cafes at many airports across the country.

Café Coffee Day opened its first café at Brigade Road in Bangalore in 1996. Today, more than a decade later, CCD is one of the largest modern retail café chains in India with its outlets functioning in every nook and corner of the country. The company currently owns and operates 1,050 cafes in 175 cities across India. It also has its presence in Vienna, Austria and Karachi.
