Bharti Retail, the wholly owned subsidiary of Bharti Enterprises, claims to have become the first Indian retailer to offer customers the facility to pay shopping bills through mobile phones.

The retailer has tied up with Airtel to allow customers to pay in-store bills of up to Rs.5,000 using ‘Airtel Money’ – the mobile wallet service introduced by the telecom operator.

On the launch of the initiative, Andrew Levermore, COO, Bharti Retail, said, “We are delighted to introduce the mobile payment facility at our Easyday and Easyday Market stores which will add to the overall shopping convenience of our customers. We believe this method of payment underscores our commitment and promise of providing our customers an efficient and wholesome shopping experience at consistently everyday low prices.”

The retailer has introduced the service at Easyday and Easyday Market stores in Gurgaon and plans to extend it to other key cities across India in a phased manner.
