Tesco has appointed Per Bank as commercial director for its clothing, electricals and general merchandise business in the UK with effect from March 1, 2011. Bank, who is currently CEO of Tesco Hungary, will also attend the Tesco Executive Committee, the first non-British executive to do so.
Bank joined Tesco in April 2009 from Coop Denmark, where he was CEO. Over the last two years, he has led Tesco Hungary to growth, transforming the clothing offer and other aspects of non-food in the process.
Philip Clarke, who will become Tesco Group CEO on March 1, says, “I am delighted that we have the opportunity to appoint Bank to this pivotal role. His flair and extensive experience in this area will be invaluable in the exciting times to come.”
In a related move, Laura Wade-Gery, who had previously been expected to take on non-food, will leave Tesco. “I am grateful to Laura for the contribution she has made to the success of Tesco and wish her well for the future,” Clarke adds.
