Sears Canada Inc., the 196-store department store network fighting the GAP, H&M, Zara and many others for market share, has named veteran U.S. retail specialist Steven Goldsmith as executive vice-president of merchandising, apparel and accessories. “He has a broad knowledge and proven capabillity in the apparel business and we look forward to his contribution,” CEO Calvin McDonald said.
He will take charge of “style and trend” across several departments including cosmetics, fragrance, jewellery and luggage – all key profit centres.
Goldsmith has held senior executive jobs at U.S. department store chains like Lord & Taylor and for the past four years he has been executive vice-president of Limited Brands Direct, with responsibility for the marketing and merchandising and Web supoort for Victoria’s Secret Direct.
