Waitrose moves into fashion for the first time and it reveals a new format store that combines food, home and fashion.
The flagship store is due to open in London’s Canary Wharf in September.
The grocer could not confirm whether the fashion offer would be a tie up with its sister retailer department store John Lewis, or new lines created for Waitrose.
Rival supermarkets, Asda, Tesco, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s are all increasing their non-food ranges to grow sales and margins.
On the new store, Waitrose commented: “Our Canary Wharf branch is undergoing a transformation. In September we’re going to unveil our exciting and innovative new shop bringing together a host of new ranges and features over three floors. We’ll reveal more over the coming weeks, but we’re certain it’ll be worth the wait.”
