Spar, the food retail chain, has opened its first hypermarket at Brookfields Plaza, Coimbatore. Spread over 36,500 sq. ft on a single floor, the large-format store showcases over 30,000 products in different categories such as children, living, kitchen, apparel, gifting, electronics, fresh produce, speciality food concepts, staples, health, beauty and food.
Speaking on the occasion, Viney Singh, managing director, Max Hypermarket India, said: “We hope to take the shopping experience in Coimbatore to a new level. Because of our sharp pricing, promotions, loyalty programme, the largest fresh produce section and customer-centric service, our customers look forward to shopping with us every week.”
As part of Spar’s “Every Day Low Pricing program” more than 135 essential grocery items will be sold at low retail prices in Coimbatore throughout the year. The ‘Best Deal’ offers will give customers up to almost 75 per cent off.
With the new store SPAR now has 9 stores in India, with the other 8 located in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mangalore, Pune and Delhi.
Spar Hypermarkets and supermarkets operate in India due to a license agreement between the Dubai based Landmark Group’s Max Hypermarkets India and SPAR International. SPAR is an independent food retail chain present in 33 countries with 12, 680 stores and a turnover of 28 billion euros. By 2013, the food retailer will open about 30 hypermarkets across India and clock revenues of Rs. 1700 crores with an investment of Rs. 550 crores.
