Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (Amul) Records Rs 18,150 Crore Sales Turnover

Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), the apex body of dairy co-operatives in Gujarat has achieved sales turnover of Rs 18,150 crore during financial year 2013-14, which is 32 percent higher than last fiscal’s sales turnover of Rs 13,750 crore. It now plans to achieve sales turnover of Rs 30,000 crore by 2019-20.

The projected unduplicated group turnover of member unions of GCMMF crossed Rs 26,000 crore which is also higher by 37 percent compared to last financial year.

Achieving a value growth of more than 20 percent since last five years because of higher milk procurement, continuous expansion in terms of adding new markets and launching of new products, GCMMF started six new branches in India during 2013-14 to market milk and milk products.

The 17 member Unions of GCMMF with farmer member strength of 35 lakhs across 17,000 Gujarat villages process 150 lakhs liters of milk per day on an average. GCMMF claims to be ranked among the top 15 dairy companies in the world in terms of milk processing. It’s own milk processing capacity stands at 230 lakhs liters per day.

In order to meet milk and milk products demand in major metros of India, the member unions of GCMMF have started creating their own milk processing plants in states of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. The Member Unions of GCMMF have also started milk procurement from other states so that milk producer members of the states also benefit from “Amul Model”.

Commenting on the achievement, R S Sodhi, Managing Director, GCMMF, said: “We have achieved volume sales growth in all product categories. Pouch milk which contributes around 45 percent of sales turnover has shown volume growth in double digit.” He further added that GCMMF exported milk and milk products worth Rs 525 crore during 2013-14 against Rs 140 crore during 2012-13.

Apart from pouch milk, dairy categories like Amulspray, Butter and Ghee crossed sales value of more than Rs 1,000 crore. Other categories like Amul long-life Ultra High Temperature (UHT) Milk and Amul Fresh Cream also recorded growth of 40 percent.
