What is the contribution of a fashion designer in planning and creating a model’s look?
A fashion designer is responsible for creating the ensemble and the entire look. Right from birthing the concept of the show to taking it to completion, the look revolves around fashion designer. She has to manage each minute detail.
What is the importance of hair and make-up in fashion?
I feel it’s important. It brings out the thought, and if goes wrong, it can ruin the overall look. The aesthetics and feel of the garment are non-negotiable factors. The make-up must gel with the outfit for an extraordinary feel.
Who is your inspiration and why?
Nobody, however, all international designers and their concepts inpsire me. What I do is to look at my clients closely and listen to them patiently. I believe creativity exists in everyone. I also guide my clients on jewellery and make-up.
Which is the most outrageous look adopted?
My look is elegant, classy and I dont believe in outrageous or offbeat looks. I stick to my core basics. Also the garment shall reflect personality of a person, I don’t impose my thoughts on any person.
What is the missing element in the fashion weeks?
Energy, drama and theatric appeal! This is what I like in international fashion weeks. Shows by Alexander McQueen or Chanel are something else. They bind the interest of the audience and surpriseand thrill you at every instance.
Who are the make-up artists you usually work with?
Anu Kaushik and Deepa.
How do you incorporate beauty and hairstyles in your collection or ramp?
There is nothing in particular, but I keep a tap on new trends. I also give my hairstylists and make-up artists liberty to use their creativity.
What are your favourite make-up and hair products?
For make-up I recommend Chanel and for hair John Frieda.
What are the beauty trends that you have witnessed in the past few years?
The beauty industry is booming. Various manicures, pedicures, facials, spas are coming up in a big way. Both fashion and beauty go hand in hand.
What are your future plans?
I will experiment more with the market and take my label to newer heights.
