Vodafone pumps in Rs150 cr to boost rural distribution, store network

The country’s second largest telecom service provider, Vodafone India, has opened its 50th store in Tamil Nadu. The store is specifically designed with new features aimed at providing one-stop shop experience platform to the customers.
During the inauguration, the company said that it has invested over Rs 150 crore on ramping up network and distribution in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana circle during the last fiscal year ended March 31.
“Our investments over the past year have been directed at putting in place a network that our customers can rely upon, especially in the rural belt. Also, we have been expanding retail and distribution network to get closer to customers across urban and rural geographies,” Rohit Tandon, business head – Andhra Pradesh & Telangana, Vodafone India, was quoted as saying in a statement.
Vodafone now has over 9500 2G sites in AP & Telangana circle covering over 95 per cent of the region’s population. According to media reports, the telco currently has 1200-plus retail outlets, including 42 Vodafone stores, 240 Vodafone Mini Stores and 864 ADVMS (rural mini stores).
Over the past 12 months, Vodafone has added 12 VS and 100 VMS in the region. It has 14 Global Design Retail stores in the region.
In an earlier report, Vodafone claimed that it is also the only telecom services provider in the country to set up physical presence even in 500 plus population towns, through the iconic Vodafone ‘Laal Dukaan’. The company also said that it had invested over Rs 1,000 crore for ramping up network as well as retail presence in Mumbai during the last fiscal.
