The Federation of Hosiery Manufacturers Association of India (FOHMA) in association with West Bengal Hosiery Association (WBHA) and Bengal Hosiery Manufacturers Association (BHMA) organised KNITCON 2015 at The Oberoi Grand Hotel, Kolkata on May 9.
The maiden conference was attended by more than 225 delegates belonging to the textile fraternity from all over the country. The conference was inaugurated by distinguished members of FOHMA, WBHA and BHMA. K B Agarwal, President, FOHMA and MD, Rupa & Company Limited welcomed the textile and hosiery fraternity with his inaugural speech; and the theme presentation was shared by Pradeep Arora, Convener, Knitcon 2015 and Director, Cotton Casuals (I) Private Limited. The other dignitaries present at the inaugural session were B D Kothari, Senior Vice President, WBHA and Director, Kothari Hosiery Factory; Sharad Bhatter, President, BHMA and CEO Asia Hosiery Mills Private Limited; M Choudhury, Regional Head, Textile Commissioner, Govt. of India; and Sreemoy Banerjee, Secretary, FOHMA and Director, Sreepati Hosiery Mills Private Limited.
The first edition of the conference aimed at understanding the advancements in knitting, processing and stitching in knitwear industry which would eventually help in developing the entire standard of the vertical across the country.
Knitcon 2015 had four in-depth sessions covering areas including:
1. Fibre and yarn
2. Knitting
3. Processing (including dyeing and finishing)
4. Garmenting (including stitching and finishing)
The conference tried to serve the sector as a veritable platform for brand manufacturers, knitwear companies, machines makers, product developers, dealers, etc. who came together to learn from the presentations and deliberations. KNITCON 2015 is the outcome of FOHMA’s on-going efforts, to focus on the knitwear industry while understanding and discovering the various opportunities that may be available for future entrepreneurs and business entities.
Since the early ’70s, FOHMA has established itself as the apex body for the hosiery industry in India having representations on all major governmental bodies of textiles. They have been concerned in supporting the hosiery business on all fronts starting from technology, policy-making, market development, and other inter-related matters.
Apart from reputed entrepreneurs, professionals and business connoisseurs from the Indian textile and clothing industry, the speakers’ list in this conference had prominent international names from countries like Germany, Italy, Japan and Korea who participated in the talks.
