E-lala is not a portal, but an 'Encyclopedia' for consumers: CAIT

The city-location based portal, e-lala, of the apex body of small traders, Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), is all set to go live by first week of October.
The said portal was proposed at the national governing council meeting of CAIT, held on June 8. The body has constituted a committee under the chairmanship of its national president BC Bhartia to implement the plan.
The portal aims at strengthening the brick-and-mortar retailers who has been fighting tooth and nail with online retailers, from quite some time now.
“We intend to provide a direct interface between sellers and consumers. It will be a location based portal wherein traders from different cities will be registered under their respective category of items. Consumers will have the option to either to buy online or from physical store of the chosen seller,” explains Praveen Khandelwal, National Secretary General, CAIT.
“By providing a direct interface between consumers and sellers, we are eliminating the third part involvement in any transactions.Such a facility will enable the elimination of commission component usually charged by other e-commerce portal and will thereby benefit our traders and consumers,” he asserts.
As per plans, the portal will have some unique features to differentiate it from any other e-commerce portal.
“Each seller at the portal will have his own website and there will be a technical team in each city to provide support. In addition to this, the portal will also have a city-wise specialsed corner, where the ‘known product’ of that particular city will be available,” Khandelwal elaborates.
Along with traders, the portal will also assist the requirements of the consumers. “If a consumer is unable to find a product, he/ she can leave a query at the portal and our team of experts will direct the consumers to the right seller in no time. It will be like an encyclopedia for them,” he concludes.
