Central Warehousing Corporation rents out space to Amazon

The Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC), aiming to tap new area of business, has decided to rent out 90,000 sq ft space to e-commerce giant Amazon for 10 years. Amazon will be utilising the space to store its items.
The space rented out both in Chennai and Coimbatore is enough to store about 15,000 tonnes of products. The e-commerce will be shelling out Rs 2.2 crore annually for the rent of this space.
Apart from this, CWC has also rented out space to Big Basket and Army Supply Corps.
As per the conditions, Amazon will carry out improvement of facilities including installing fire fighting equipment, improvement of roof and maintain the space at its own expense.
CWC has capacity to store about 10 million tonnes and about 80-85 per cent of its space is usually booked.
