Local iPhone manufacturers have raised their voice in opposition to Apple’s bid in importing used iPhones in India.
As per them, opening doors for second hand Apple iPhones will not only make India a dumping ground, but will also negate the efforts of ‘Make in India’ to turn India in a global manufacturing hub.
If Apple gets permission, it will hammer a similar idea to many such other electronic merchandisers. India will soon see the entry of used laptops, desktops, phones and a plethora of such refurbished products.
Chairman of Mobile & Communications Council, Ravinder Zutshi was quoted by The Economic Times as saying, “When the government is creating Make in India to reduce imports, and a lot of mobile manufacturers are coming to the country, how can we have imports of refurbished phones by any brand, not just Apple. We fully oppose such a move.”
“India has strong anti-dumping laws, so they (government) would be careful not to let a Pandora’s Box open up…It won’t be an easy decision to make because it goes against Make in India,” Founder of GreenDust, Hitendra Chaturvedi was quoted by The Economic Times as saying.
