Vijay Shekhar Sharma,
Founder,
Paytm
Following the motto ‘To the winners, who won because they didn’t give up’ Vijay Shekhar Sharma is a seasoned entrepreneur and the founder of Paytm.
Unlike other tech top shots, Sharma had to struggle hard with his education. Sharma had studied in Hindi medium in a small town school and hence was lost in transition in Delhi College of Engineering.
It was during that time, when he was struggling with English language, that he made Internet his tool and closely followed Sabeer Bhatia and Yahoo. Due to a financial crunch, his dream of attending Stanford remained unfulfilled, but he determined to learn the coding system by himself.
With some of his college mates, he invented Content Management System which was first used by The Indian Express for publishing. Sharma joined an MNC during this time but he quit after six months and established his own company.
He began his career with RiverRun Software Group (BD) executive, Intersolutions India Pvt Ltd (Technical Executive), India Today Group Online (Tech head), Startec Global Systems, India (CTO).
In December 2000, Sharma founded One97 Communications Limited. Exactly 10 years later, in December 2010, he founded Paytm which became a leading name in Mobile Commerce all over the country.
Since then, there has been no looking back and recently IAMAI has designated him the post of Chairman of its group.
