US-based luggage brand Samsonite will introduce their footwear range in India. Samsonite footwear has been in the Italian market for the last 13 years, and is considered one of the top brown shoe brands in the European market.
About plans for the Indian market, Dr Ramesh Tainwala, president, Samsonite, Asia, told Indiaretailing, “We will be investing approximately Rs 18 crore for the first year. The cost includes re-doing of the existing Samsonite travel stores to accommodate the footwear collection. By 2008 we will also retail through MBOs like Shoppers’ Stop and shoe superstores like The Loft.”
