Tata Steel opened its second retail outlet of “steeljunction” at Siliguri, West Bengal. The outlet at Sunflower Mall was inaugurated by Anand Sen, vice president, Flat Products, Tata Steel. Also present on the occasion was Sarvesh Kumar, chief of marketing and sales, Agrico, and chief of retail initiatives.
The “steeljunction” store, spread over an area of 3,500 square feet, houses products made out of steel. Product categories like furniture, utensils, lifestyle products, modular kitchen, home appliances, and hardware items are also on display. Additionally, all Tata Steel sub-brands like Tata Shaktee, Tata Tiscon, Tata Pipes and Tata Agrico will be sold through the outlet.
The main objective of Tata Steel in venturing into organised retail is to change the perception of people towards steel, through showcasing steel as providing useful products that touch the lives of ordinary people. The company is planning to open six more stores by March 2008.
The first “steeljunction” was opened in December 2005 in Kolkata.
