Fresh trouble continues — Reliance reconsidering UP stores

Must Read

Deterred by the protests and agitations in the state, the promise of providing fresh vegetables at Reliance Fresh outlets in Uttar Pradesh is becoming hard to keep, paving way for other goods like footwear, apparel, jewellery and books.

Industry sources say that Reliance Industries is considering the prospect of having 15 of its Reliance Fresh outlets in UP to retail goods other than vegetables and fruits. The company also plans to launch its first books, music and films store and another footwear store in the National Capital Region in December.

Reliance Retail shut down its Reliance Fresh outlets across Uttar Pradesh after widespread protests by political and other pressure groups of traders.

Meanwhile, former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh Uma Bharati led protests against the company’s food retail stores in the state, and some protesters attacked a Reliance Fresh outlet there. Members of Bharatiya Janshakti party also staged similar protests outside a Reliance Fresh store at Palasia Square in Indore.
