Punjab Grill to open seven stores by March 2010; expects Rs 50 cr revenue

Punjab Grill, a fine dining Indian restaurant chain promoted by a joint venture between Wrapster Foods Pvt Ltd and Lite Bite Foods Pvt Ltd, will open its second outlet at Select Citywalk mall in Delhi today. This is the second outlet of the chain, which opened its first store at Ambience Mall in Gurgaon in July 2008. Further, the company will open its third outlet at Phoenix Mills in Mumbai in three months time, informed a top company official.

Speaking to IndiaRetailing, Zorawar Kalra, MD, Wrapster Foods Pvt Ltd, said, “Punjab Grill is a fine dining Indian restaurant, which focuses on gourmet Indian cuisine from East and West Punjab. We have included the most popular cuisine across the cities of India and Pakistan.” He stated that they have included cuisines from cities like Baluchistan, Rawalpindi and Lahore in Pakistan. The menu also includes cuisines from Delhi, Patiala and Amritshar and other Indian cities.

Elaborating further, Kalra said that the format is fine dining Indian restaurant with an emphasis on Kabab items. “Fifty per cent of our menu is vegetarian while the other 50 per cent are non-vegetarian,” said Kalra. “We have given equal importance on vegetarian dishes because we believe that India is predominantly a vegetarian nation and we made sure that the segment is taken very well care of.”

The restaurant at Select Citywalk is designed in two different parts – one is the indoor area and the other one is the semi-outdoor area. The half part of semi-outdoor area is covered by special water proofing equipments and the other half part is open to the sky. “The ambience is very pleasant. We are providing a great ambience to our customers,” said Kalra.

About expansion and investment plan, Kalra informed that the company has planned to open around seven Punjab Grill restaurants in the current fiscal. “We have selected space in Kolkata. We are also looking at expanding our chain in cities like Bengaluru and Chennai, but our prime focus is Delhi. We expect around Rs 50 crore as revenue by the end of this fiscal,” stated Kalra.

Kalra informed that all the proposed stores are company owned, but sometimes later, the company will partner with franchise as well for expansion. However, he said that at present there is no plan to expand the chain in overseas countries like Pakistan.

The store spreads over 3000 square feet size and has a sitting capacity of 96 people. Wrapster Foods operates another chain of restaurants called Street Foods of India, which has seven stores operational across the country.
