Shoe major Bata India Limited has reported a 42.6 per cent increase in its profit before tax (PBT) at Rs.142.9 crore for the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2010, against Rs.100.26 crore in the corresponding quarter a year ago.

During the quarter under review, the company’s net turnover grew 23.5 per cent at Rs.355.8 crore, as compared to Rs.288.09 crore in the quarter ended December 31, 2009.

Announcing the results, Marcelo Villagran, group managing director, Bata India Ltd, said, “The year 2010 has been incredible for Bata India. During the year, we opened a record 108 stores, each with an area of over 3,000 sq.ft. The new stores use the latest retail designs and best quality furniture that enhance the store’s layout and provide for an attractive product display.”

Over the last five years, Bata India has repositioned its stores by opening large-format stores, renovating its stores and closing down small and unviable ones. The Bata chain of stores is now completely revamped and ready with a new look to serve its customers better.

With the launch of new services for customers, such as home delivery service and an e-commerce enabled website, the brand has made footwear shopping more convenient for customers.
