Leading US casual luxury lifestyle brand Juicy Couture is scheduled to enter India in the second half of 2015 via Reliance Brands Ltd, which has tied up with New York-based Authentic Brands Group, LLC (ABG) to launch the latter’s brand in India. The partnership is looking to launch 20 Juicy Couture mono brand stores in India during the first five year phase, starting in Fall 2015, according to industry sources.
The company has not yet formally announced the exact date of opening and the debut city for the brand. While most expect Delhi or Mumbai to be the brand’s launch destinations, it may just be that Chandigarh’s Elante Mall could turn out to be the brand’s port of entry into India.
While it is not clear yet if Elante Mall will be the launch location or simply house one of the brand’s initial stores in India, it is believed a Juicy Couture outlet will open in two months’ time in the property. Elante personnel confirmed Juicy Couture’s impending occupancy in the mall, but could not confirm if this would be the maiden Indian outlet.
Juicy Couture was founded by Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor in 1997 and was purchased by the Liz Claiborne fashion company. Juicy Couture has turned into a global seller with their signature velour tracksuits and other fashions that span clothing, handbags, shoes, intimates, swimwear, fragrance, accessories, sunglasses, yoga and babywear.
In October, 2013, Fifth & Pacific, Inc. announced that they would sell Juicy Couture to Authentic Brands Group for $195 million. In June 2014 the company was reported to be closing all its stores in the United States, with the closure expected by the end of June 2015. The company’s 60 international stores remain operating.
