Tea production grows 18.74 pc in September

Tea production in September grew by 18.74 per cent to 184.6 million kg as compared to 155.46 million kg produced in the corresponding month last year, the Tea Board of India said on Monday.
The Y-o-Y increase in tea production by 29.14 million kg during September was due to favourable ambient temperature as well as sufficient and good distribution of rainfall.
The estimated tea production during April-September period in the current fiscal stood at 795.89 million kg, as against 795.86 million kg in the corresponding period last year.
During September, tea production in north India was at 164.44 million kg, up by 20.06 per cent from 136.96 million kg produced in the year-ago period while south India’s production increased by 1.66 million kg to 20.16 kg.
In September, Assam’s production increased by 12.26 million kg while in West Bengal, tea production was up by 14.42 million kg.
Tamil Nadu’s tea production registered 0.37 million kg rise while Kerala’s production went up marginally by 1.50 million kg.
During the first six months of the current fiscal, production in north India was at 681.54 million kg, an increase of 15.71 million kg.
South India’s production in the first half (April-September) of the fiscal declined by 15.68 million kg to 114.35 million kg.
According to data, estate factory production in North India increased marginally by 1.57 per cent while it declined by 9.51 per cent in south India. As a result, the net all India estate factory production dropped by 0.04 per cent in April-September period.
