Barnes & Noble opens third bookstore with full restaurant

Must Read

Famous bookstore Barnes & Noble is all set to open its third bookstore prototype – complete with a full-service restaurant in Folsom, California, this week. Barnes & Noble is trying to revive sales in the face of growing online competition.
The restaurant – called The Barnes & Noble Kitchen – will offer an all-day menu and indoor and outdoor seating for 140 diners. Also on offer is table service. Wine offerings include varieties produced regionally or in California and draft beers from six local brewers are also on the menu.
Wall Street estimates that Amazon has cut into Barnes & Noble’s overall market share by more than 25 per cent since 2010.
Analysts said the availability of bargain-priced books on Amazon and the popularity of Amazon’s Kindle e-reader have deeply impacted Barnes & Nobles’ revenue, with annual sales revenue plunging from $7.13 billion in 2012 to $4.16 billion in the most recent fiscal year.
For the restaurant/cafe/bar facilities, Barnes & Noble partnered with the international design/concept firm of AvroKO and The Branstetter Group, the Santa Monica-based hospitality management/advisory firm.
